Antimicrobial Resistance: policy recommendations

The policy brief "Antimicrobial  Resistance: policy recommendations", developed by Idec in partnership with ReAct Latin America, provides an in-depth analysis of the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) landscape in Brazil, with a focus on the interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health — grounded in the One Health approach. The publication presents scientific evidence on the multiple transmission pathways of AMR, particularly through the animal production chain, and evaluates the effectiveness of current public policies and surveillance initiatives in the country.

Based on this diagnosis, the report offers a robust set of policy recommendations for tackling AMR at the national level. The proposed measures include integrated actions in monitoring, education, regulation, and the promotion of sustainable farming and biosecurity practices, aiming to curb resistance and preserve the therapeutic effectiveness of antimicrobials. This is a strategic contribution to the development of public policies that align health, agriculture, and environmental sectors.
